History and present of Persol and its most famous sunglasses
The Persol 649 sunglasses model is one of the brand's icons
In 1917 Giuseppe Ratti, photographer and owner of Berry Opticians, began an adventure in Turin based on the creation of technologically advanced and specialized glasses for pilots. That model evolved to create quality and very manageable sunglasses. Hence the Persol trademark, which translates as "for the sun", was born.
Starting in the 50s is when Persol consolidated and achieved success with the 649 model , after Marcello Mastroianni wore the famous sunglasses in one of his films. Without a doubt , technological innovation in their lenses and the use of resistant materials are two of their emblems in the optical sector and in the world of fashion.
Although it was the actor Steve McQueen who helped turn the classic model into an icon of the firm. In 2017, coinciding with Persol's centenary, the brand once again launched the sunglasses model. A linear design with flexible temples -thanks to the Meflecto system- and glass lenses.
One of the latest revivals to hit the market has been the Persol 9649SG Limited Edition.
